Welcome to the official website of uMzumbe Municipality. The Municipality prides itself with numerous development opportunities available to people of uMzumbe and other investors. UMzumbe Municipality runs along the coastal strip between Mthwalume and Hibberdene, which could offer an opportunity to the community of uMzumbe and investors who would wish to invest in activities related to fishing, leisure and water sports etc. uMzumbe also boasts enjoyment of tourism, heritage and agricultural benefits. The unique scenery of uMzumbe with its rivers, beautiful mountains, as well as cultivated forestry, offers sound eco-tourism.


Ntelezi Msani Memorial Project that as been identified by the Municipality as the tourism flagship programme, seeks to highlight and commemorate the role, participation and effect of the Bhambatha rebellion in the greater uGu and uMthwalume area.  It will contribute in unlocking the tourism potential and further transformation the heritage sector in the District. Ntelezi Msani Memorial Project honours the unsung heroes of the 1906 Poll Tax uprisings that were led by Ntelezi kaKhukhulela Msani.



Agriculture is the major source of income and the largest employer in uMzumbe. The major commercial farming enterprises are sugarcane plantations, bananas and timber. Subsistence agriculture comprises mostly of livestock, dry land cropping and vegetables production. In addition to this there is a magnitude of organized government supported farming projects that have a steady surplus with the potential of supplying major markets. UMzumbe Municipality is dedicated in promoting local economic development and building a better future for all.
